First edition
The 6 sonatas were composed in the 1920s. E. Ysaÿe assigned each of the sonatas for violin solo to one or dedicated to one of his great violinist colleagues. Alongside Bach's partitas and sonatas and Paganini's capricci, they are among the most important works of this genre and are now part of the repertoire of every ambitious violinist.
Ysaÿe himself provided the sonatas with detailed playing instructions, which have of course been carefully included in this new edition.
A transposition for the viola, which is not yet available, closes a gap and makes this demanding, magnificent music accessible to ambitious viola players.
The technical difficulty (1-10) is between 8 and 9
