The 12 fantasias for violin senza basso by G. Ph. Telemann are - along with Bach's sonatas and partitas - the best-known music for violin in the Baroque period alone. They are characterized by a great variety of themes and compositional richness.
A transposition for viola is therefore obvious and represents an attractive expansion of the repertoire for viola players.
The majority of the 3 or 4-movement fantasies are technically relatively easy to master. Some passages are equipped with more demanding double stops.
The completely new edition has been edited and adapted for practical use on the basis of the earliest source - a copyist's copy from 1735.
The difficulty level (1-10) of most of the fantasies is 3 to 4; 2 to 3 of the 12 fantasies are closer to 5.
