Performing what is probably Schubert's best-known song cycle on the violin - an octave above the original range - means making music with the most intense expressiveness. Feelings of desolation and loneliness can hardly be expressed more beautifully and at the same time scarier - even without words.

Technically, the 24 relatively short pieces are much easier for the strings than for the pianist. Of course, it is not that easy to come as close as possible to the cantability of the human voice.
