First edition
H.I.F. Biber's Passacaglia is one of the most important works for violin of the Baroque period alone. A 2-bar basso ostinato motif is artfully played around in 60 variations. A transposition of this admirable composition for cello is delightful and represents a valuable addition to the cello player's repertoire.
In order to do justice to the composition and to be able to play it with fun, the player should master the basics of double stop and running technique (also in higher registers).
The edition was edited and set up for practical use on the basis of Biber's manuscript, a copy of which is attached to the edition.
The technical difficulty (1-10) is between 4 and 5
