The 4-movement Trio in C major, Op. 87, which was written in 1794 - although it was revised again years later - Beethoven originally wrote it for 2 oboes and English horn. The work has enjoyed great popularity since it was first published in 1806, which soon led to a series of arrangements - while Beethoven was still alive.
The trio begins with a broad sonata movement. A melodious, atmospheric Adagio cantabile is followed by an attractive minuet, the delicate trio section of which is syncopated throughout. With the 4th movement - a lively presto - the work ends energetically.
The composition can also be played finely in the version presented for 3 cellos and with one viola and 2 cellos, since the edition has a viola part of the 1st cello is included.
The technical difficulty (1-10) is 4
