First edition
The six organ trio sonatas are highlights of J. S. Bach's organ works. The balanced three-part composition of these sonatas suggests a version for three string instruments. While the performance of these sonatas on the organ is considered delicate, difficult to play works because of their consistent polyphony, this magnificent music for three string instruments can be realized without major technical difficulties.
In the three-volume version presented, the first part is assigned to a violin (oboe); the second part can be performed either with violin 2 or with viola (a viola part is included in the edition); the third part is taken by the cello (bassoon). In the version with a 2. Violin had to be transposed to a higher octave in a few places for technical reasons, while in the version with viola as the 2nd Agree the original location could be retained.
Great music-making pleasure. Ideal for church concerts.
The level of difficulty is a good 4 on a scale of 1 to 10 for the violins and viola; for the cello at 3.
