Schubert's first string trio was composed in 1816; a year before he wrote his second trio - also in B flat major - for this instrumentation.
It was most likely conceived as a multi-movement work. However, only the first 39 bars of the second slow movement of the trio have survived, so that the work is only available as a one-movement fragment. This movement, composed transparently and based on models of the sonata form of Haydn and Mozart, can of course be rated as a musical gem of the string trio genre with its energetically gripping and cheerfully playful character on the one hand.
The technical difficulty (1-10) is between 3 and 4
