Viotti: Duo op. 29, No. 3 in C minor for 2 violins or violin and viola

The Italian Viotti was a violin virtuoso celebrated throughout Europe. He is considered one of the fathers of modern violin technique. He spent a large part of his life in Paris, where he also directed the Grand Opera for several years.

Viotti has composed 32 violin concertos, 70 violin sonatas and numerous trios, quartets and duos for strings. One of his most beautiful duets is the 3-movement work in C minor, which is particularly impressive due to the dramatic character of its two outer movements.

The voice of the 2 Violin is consistently held on the lower strings and can easily be played on the viola without changing register.
